The role of the Home-Start Family Worker.

Home-Start Family workers deliver programs and support services that promote positive

approaches to;

  • Parenting
  • Relationships
  • Child and Family well being
  • Early childhood development
  • Early childhood education
  • Connecting with the community

Families can also be visited by a Home-Start Family Worker in their own homes, where it is sometimes easier for families to talk about and address their concerns about family life or parenting.  Home-Start encourages parents to recognise and build on their own strengths, enhancing their well being and the healthy development of their children.

 What happens when a family is referred?

Families can ask to become involved with Home-Start themselves or they may be referred by other services. Once a referral has been received the family worker makes an initial visit to the family. Together the family and the Home-Start worker develop a plan that will help the family to achieve their aims.

 All Home-Start workers take the position that families usually know what sort of help they need to  assist them in providing a safe and nurturing environment for their children.

 Families receiving the Home-Start Service:      are assured of confidentiality and privacy.

  •  are treated with dignity and respect.
  •  are not discriminated against for any reason.
  •  are encouraged to have input into the planning of programs
  •  are encouraged to participate in decision making.
